Exceptions To The Rule -- On Sale NOW!

Exceptions To The Rule by Fae Sutherland and Marguerite Labbe Available NOW from Ellora’s Cave

Two men with nothing in common, a strip club on a Tuesday night and a meeting that will forever change the rules.

Nathan Daniels and Jamie Nolan are from two different worlds, but under the façades and packaging they are more alike than they think. Suits and ties meet leather and tattoos as a bartender and a financial analyst find out that falling in love is everything the storybooks say, even when it’s the x-rated version.

Read an excerpt HERE!! Warning, this excerpt is rated R and *not* work-safe :) Click on the cover to get your copy today!

Who wants an excerpt? You do!

Marguerite and I have a novella releasing with Ellora's Cave on Friday, and though we haven't got cover art to share yet (*UPDATE* Cover art is now under the cut to save friends lists! Click, it's so lickable and yummy!!), we thought we could share a yummy excerpt to whet your appetites! So take a peek behind the cut for a little of Nathan and Jamie's sexy naughtiness!

Nathan picked up the glass and saluted it toward Jamie. “It seems I have very good timing.” He wasn’t sure what Jamie had in mind, but he didn’t care as long as he got to touch him, kiss him hello. “Just as long as I don’t get you into trouble.”

Jamie snickered. “Oh, but trouble is half the fun, honey. You’ll see.” He looked over his shoulder as another customer called to him. “You just sit right there, enjoy your mojito and ogle to your heart’s content. I won’t be long.”

Nathan took a sip, his eyes trained on him as he walked off. He couldn’t help chuckling when Jamie started joking with the customer, a natural-born flirt. He tried to look away so he wouldn’t be obvious, but his eyes kept returning to Jamie as he worked the bar. With any of his previous lovers he would’ve been jealous to see him laughing like that, teasing another man with a wicked twinkle in his eyes. But it was different now. He couldn’t quite put his finger on why, just that it was.

A new bartender ducked behind the apron, taking Jamie’s spot. Anticipation fluttered in Nathan’s stomach as he drained the last of his drink. He couldn’t even begin to guess what Jamie had in mind. The practical side of him said it couldn’t be anything more than maybe a turn on the dance floor, but in the last week or so he’d learned that the mischief he saw in those green eyes promised much more than a dance and quick grope.

Nathan slid off the stool and went around the counter, meeting Jamie as he emerged from behind the bar. His lover captured his hand and Nathan grinned, squeezing it and leaned up to press a quick kiss on Jamie’s lips. “So, where are we off to?” he asked as Jamie started to lead him through the crowd.

“You’ll see,” Jamie promised, flashing him a smile over his shoulder.

Nathan groaned under his breath, his cock twitching from anticipation and from just how damn good Jamie’s ass looked in those leather pants as he walked. “I can’t wait.”

Jamie chuckled under his breath, leading Nathan through the mass of contorting, tightly pressed bodies on the dance floor to a darkened archway that, unless you knew it was there, would be missed or overlooked.

He glanced back at Nathan and caught the flare of surprise and breathless anticipation on his lover’s face as he seemed to put two and two together. Jamie had mentioned the Boiler Room’s infamous back room, now he was going to give Nathan an intimate introduction.

It was dark and shadowy, dimly lit along the corridors that winded in a seeming haphazard way. Bodies were pressed together here and there, the sound of breathless moans and low curses audible to go along with the hazy silhouettes of couples and sometimes more.

Jamie turned to face his lover and gave Nathan a wicked grin, tugging him close and leaning back against the wall. Jamie slid one hand up to cup the back of his neck and dipped his head down. “Let’s make these fifteen minutes count, honey.” He claimed that lush mouth in a searing kiss, his other hand slipping down to splay on Nathan’s ass in those tailored pants. Lord, what he wouldn’t give for more time.

The kiss broke after a minute and a thrill of pure lust shivered through Jamie when Nathan’s eyes opened, their faces very close together and he couldn’t miss the flash of desire, the briefest foreshadowing of what Nathan was going to do before his impeccably dressed lover loosened his tie and he sank to his knees.

Want to get the rest of the story? Head over to Ellora's Cave on Friday and order a copy. Then come on back and let us know what you thought!

I'm in love with Katrina Strauss

Or, erm, her writing at least.

Most notably her most recent novel, published by Loose ID, title Blue Ruin 1: Some Kind OF Stranger. Long title, we'll just call it Blue Ruin because I am lazy and hate typing long thingies.

First off, let me just say that I don't know Katrina. I've never spoken to her, I don't write for any of the pubs she does, so this is not pimping a fellow author because it's the nice thing to do. No way. This is "OMG I saw a pimp of this book on Jana Hanson's blog (she was the editor btw and a fine job she did) and went to read the excerpt and then proceeded to beg my roommate to loan me her credit card so I could buy a copy." And so I did.

I've tested the waters of ebooks before, being an ebook author myself, but honestly had yet to find any author or book that really made me sit up and take notice. The kind that made me say to my friends, fellow book whores, "You guys *have* to read this!". Thanks to Katrina and Blue Ruin, that's all changed.

Blue Ruin is the story of Derek, smexy part-asian hottie with an angsty secret, and Blue, hot little homeless piece who falls right into Derek's well-endowed lap and is more than happy to stay there. Blue is called Blue because he has, well, blue hair. Not the most clever of nicknames and a bit much considering he also works at a club called Blue Ruin, but the boy is absolutely adorable and mischievous and wickedly sensual, so I totally forgive the slight lack of imagination.

Now, if you're looking for actual gay smut, look elsewhere. This is pure yaoi boylovin' goodness. The bishies are pretty as peaches, soft and fruity smelling and tears are not ashamed to be shed. Bondage and spanking and pert reddened bottoms abound, teary-eyed uke and loveable asshole seme. Blue is one of my favorite kind of uke's, though, the smart-mouthed, tempermental, top from the bottom kind. No woe-is-me angstiness for Blue, he's tough and street smart and clever enough to wrap Derek right around his skinny little finger while not even totally conscious their first night together. That takes skill, yo.

I'll be honest, the plot, what there was of it, was just "okay". But the characters were awesome. 3 dimensional and real and funny as hell. I laughed out loud a good dozen times just from Blue's lines alone. And Derek's reactions to Blue were just as amusing. It's a fun, fun FUN story, sexy and very much character-driven. Luckily for me, that's my favorite kind of story. I'll happily trade an intricately detailed plot for some hardcore, awesome characters any day.

If you like yaoi, bishie's and hot D/s-infused sexiness? Definitely get your hands on Katrina Strauss's Blue Ruin 1: Some Kind Of Stranger Purchase it here: http://www.loose-id.com/detail.aspx?ID=635

I hear tell there's to be a follow up, not surprising since it is, after all, titled Blue Ruin *1*. I don't know if it will be Derek and Blue again. I hope so. If not, I hope it's at the very least another set of sexy uke and sexy seme. I was pretty bummed to see she hadn't written anything else m/m, because I was hoping to buy a couple more titles to enjoy from her backlist, but I just don't read het. So I shall eagerly await Blue Ruin 2 and make do in the meantime with rereading Blue and Derek.

Well done, Ms. Strauss. I loved it.

Marguerite and I sold our short story, Snowbound-Lovebound, to Dreamspinner Press for inclusion in their anthology, Mr. Right Now! It's slated for a January 2008 release and will be available in print, as well as ebook form. Here's the blurb:

When animosity is stripped away, all that's left is desire. Traveling together in snowy New England, Bryan Tam and Jimmy Murphy are at each other's throats long before they lose control of their car. Attraction and tempers collide and the storm raging outside is nothing compared to the one going on in the backseat.

We're very excited, this will be our first release (despite not being the first sale lol) and our first print release at that!

Name my NaNo main character! A contest I'm running!

Ever wanted to say you helped in the process of writing a book? Ever wanted your name on the acknowledgements page? Here's your chance! Below the cut are 6 pictures of the man I am modeling my NaNo main character after. What I need is his name. So leave a comment here and give this lovely man a name. If you're name is chosen, you'll get a thank you on the book's acknowledgements page! How cool is that?

He's 26 years old, a second year medical student at George Washington University's School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He's an only child, and comes from money, his father is a Congressman and his mother's a lawyer. So there's a lot of pressure to succeed, but they love him to bits and are supportive. He has an on-again/off-again lover, but it's off again right now. He doesn't know if he believes in forever kind of love, but thinks it's something that will have to wait, he has plans and getting serious right now is not one of them. His heritage, if you want to take that into consideration, is Irish and Danish.

So that's a bit about him, now onto the pictures!

So get to thinking, guys, the contest will run until NaNo starts and I'll announce the winner on November First! You can enter as many times as you like, so throw some names at me!

It's been so quiet in here. Mostly because things have been crazy unproductive lately. With the move and waiting on submissions and waiting on edits and just generally life being completely up in the air, I haven't been able to focus on anything beyond pointless non-work smut. Even that sometimes I can't focus on. Plus Margie's been hard at work with her real job and also working on editing her completed solo novel.

With any kind of luck, though, I and my roommate will have our apartment soon and then things will calm down and settle back into a peaceful routine. I just didn't want anyone to think I had disappeared or anything. Nope, just waiting for life to stop roller-coastering, is all.

I'll try and post more often, if there's something worth posting about.

Update

So here's the skinny on what's been going on.

First, Joshua's Muse. Word is I haven't been assigned an editor yet and it might be a while before one becomes available. Good news is at least I have a vague idea what's going down.

Second, Bee Among The Clover. Due to unforseen computer death (not mine thank goodness) Bee's edits and revision schedule is being pushed back about 6 weeks. Not a big deal and no real concerns there.

Third, Exceptions To The Rule. Very nearly finished editing that up in prep for submission to Samhain's M/M valentine's anthology. It should go out next week to the editor in charge of the anthology. Fingers crossed, everybody.

Fourth, Backfield In Motion. That's coming along, Margie and I should get back hard at work on that next week when she gets back from vacay. It's at just about 50k right now.

Fifth, the Castaway story. That one is being restructured. Margie and I both didn't like where it was going. Just moving too fast so we're going back a couple of chapters and rewriting. Darn impatient musi need to keep to the schedule.

Sixth, Lily Of The Valley. Haven't heard about this one in a while, have you folks? LOL. It's the third book in the Garden Of Exile series that Margie and I almost didn't write. But We think we know why it wasn't working and have, I think, decided to unscrap it. It and Where The Jasmine Grows will be being heavily plotted and outlined before we start and will likely end up written simultaneously as soon as we empty out some slots in our writing schedule.

So that's the low down on the writing front. Sounds like a lot, and yet not so much at the same time. Ah well, we do what we can. Stay tuned for more as things progress.

Ha, I sounded like a newscaster right there.

I got my package of prize goodies from Rene and Andy Douglas today! *flails some more*

The bandanna is soooo cute, and autographed! And smells nice. And has been touched by Andy. It's not brand new either, so possibly worn by him at some point. *squeaks*

The autographed picture of Andy, an 8x10, is *also* autographed by Chase!! Didn't expect that extra treat!

Plus a mousepad with Andy's book cover on it, autographed by him and Rene, as well as bunches of other goodies, all autographed, including the first book of the Templar Vampire series. *squeaks some more*

I need frames omg. For the picture and the bandanna and the mousepad, so the autographs don't fade or get ruined. Cause dude. Andy touched those. My barracuda. *wibbles*

Yeah, just a little bit excited lol. YAY!

*collapses*

Margie and I just sent off the revised version of Bee Among The Clover to our editor. Four days ahead of our deadline. I'm paranoid something is the matter with the MS, due to us having done each chapter seperately and then cobbling them back together as a single document, but I think it's fine and frankly if I have to look at the darn thing again right now I'd shoot myself, so here's to hoping everything's fine. I think it is, I checked and double checked to be sure all the chapters are there but just couldn't make myself reread the whole book to be a hundred percent positive the cut and pasting back together went perfectly. Come on, it's 400 something pages and we've been working nonstop on it for a month now and 9 months altogether. It's the best it can be, as far as I'm concerned and at some point you have to just step back and say "Enough, you've nitpicked it as much as you can, let the baby go", ya know?

So it's been sent and now I'm going back to bed to maybe sleep for a week. And hope the changes are exactly what our dear editor wanted.

LOL. Methinks Andy and Chase bring new meaning to the phrase "tag team partner". At least I can dream, right?

By the way, everybody head over to Rene's site http://www.renelyons.net and participate in her April contest/scavenger hunt.
Some good news

I hadn't posted about this here yet since it wasn't entirely official, but considering Margie and I just got back the first round of line edits from our editor today I think that's official enough to say...

Bee Among The Clover will be coming soon to Freya's Bower!

We're very excited, Bee is, hands down, our baby, our Magnum Opus to be pretentious. The acceptance is, at this point, conditional on revisions, but we're confident they're going to come along swimmingly so here's our announcement.

We have a wonderful editor working with us who truly "gets" the characters and the story and has had some amazing suggestions for us that we're incorporating to make an already strong manuscript even stronger. Besides, there's little Margie and I love more than delving in waist deep into Bee, we're very excited to be working on it again. We missed our boys a lot.

So that's the deal on Bee, we'll post more as things progress. Yay!
